McCann files to be given to judge

McCann files to be given to judge

"Portuguese prosecutors are to hand to a judge the files on missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann".

"Charges decision in 10 days"

"A Portuguese public prosecutor decided that the dossier outlining the case against the McCanns should be reviewed by a judge.

The judge will have the final say on whether the couple will be charged".

Anyone know the implications of this?
Is it too complex, for instance, to be decided by the local prosecutor, or too grave ? Or is he just washing his hands of it and leaving the whole thing to someone more senior who might more easily comply with the clear wishes of Gordon Brown and his cabinet boys and girls ? Could it be an Iberian version of the Cash for Peerages scandal ? Anybody know ?

stanislav: Because the prosecutor believes that there is enough evidence to support a prosecution the file is handed to a judge to make the final decision. It's just the way the system operates in Portugal.
