The McCanns have a lot of explaining to do

The McCanns have a lot of explaining to do

Following their lengthy interviews with the Portuguese police, during which the McCanns became suspects in the disappearance of 3 year old Madeleine, the police have expressed the view that the McCanns still have a lot of explaining to do. It is being claimed that between the last photo of Madeleine being taken alive at 2.30pm on 3rd of May, and 10pm, something terrible happened during those seven and a half hours. It is claimed that Madeleine was last seen alive by someone other than the McCanns at approximately 6pm. According to the McCanns, the children were put to bed at 7pm. And, at 8.30 pm they arrived at the Tapas Bar. At 9pm it is claimed that Gerry McCann checked upon the children and they were asleep. Upon leaving the apartment he stops to chat to Jeremy Wilkins for between 5-10 minutes. At 9.15pm Jane Tanner claims that she saw a man carrying a child outside the McCanns apartment. Jeremy Wilkins who claimed to be still standing there at the time saw nothing. At 9.30pm Dr Matthew Oldfield claimed to have checked the McCanns apartment and thought that the shutters might have been opened as the apartment appeared to be lighter. At 10pm Kate McCann checks the apartment and claims that Madeleine had been abducted. She phones Sky News to report this. Later the police are called.

The police are considering a theory that the McCanns killed Madeleine and hid her body before they went out for the evening.

I suspect that the setting up of the findmadeleinefund was designed to fraudulently deceive people into donating money. Perhaps the Serious Fraud Office should look into this possibility?

I believe this video is a good example of Gerry McCann lying through his teeth.

John, how and why would someone have the direct number for Sky news on them? I don't know what the police number is in Portugal, but I'm pretty sure every single Portuguese person, and plenty of the Brits staying there, would have had it. So she rings Sky news, a number that one would have investigate before calling, before the police? Madness. Alternatively, did she have the Sky number because she got it earlier when hatching their scheme?

I thought Kate had phone a friend who then rang sky news - I believe the friend is ex-Sky reporter and one of the people responsible for setting up the fund. I do agree with John that the fund needs freezing because if the McCanns are behind the disapearance then they were obviously acting fraundulantly in setting up a fund and asking for donations whilst in the knowledge that Maddy was dead - surely the fund should be frozen at least until the time that they are cleared of any wrongdoing and not suspects in the case - seems logical to me.

It is extraordinary that days after the McCanns returned to their home in the UK after being given arguido/a status that Social Services and the UK Police have failed to intervene.

When child abuse is suspected (where child abuse is a generic term covering a number of things), proof of harm is not required. This is perhaps the only occasion in UK law when this applies, when the needs of a child are placed above all else.

For Social Services to have not acted when both parents are classified as suspects is inexcusable as well as hypocritical.

You always seem to ignore Kate McCann's reactions. Her breathing changed at the beginning of G's answer. He is always being demonised and She is more often than not portrayed as a passive passanger. Why? A cultural brain washing of the innocent peaches and cream English(in this case, British)rose? Pre-Raphaelite, Victorian mythologies/lies aimed at keeping women in their place? Is it an over compensation dating from Adam and Eve? Such stereotypical thinking! This sacradness of the female is a sickness. Are we too afraid to admit that a woman can be and is as evil as any man can be/is? If he is guilty, so is she.

Jailhouse lawyer, you have been consistent in your views on this since Madeleine first went missing. You're normally quite insightful, but this time I pray that you are wrong. Can you imagine the psychological implications for many, including children etc, if it were to emerge that they did kill her after all? Utterly imaginable. Many people in this country (UK)have linked themselves into this case in a way that is very unhealthy. And this includes the media. So if they were found to have killed her, can you imagine the fallout? They even went to see the Pope, for crying out loud! That would be the height of cynicism.

liz: I agree that they only have to suspect to intervene, I suspect the high profile nature of this case has got the arses twitching of the social services.

anon 3.13: I agree she is as guilty as him. It's only because he is doing the talking and ripping his ear off that in this case I have highlighted his body language. There are other videos where I have picked out hers.

bel: It's because it would be almost unimaginable that I think we have to think the worst. After all they did neglect the children for a night out on the tiles. And as the media show rolled on and more and more famous or celebrities became involved I thought when the shit hits the fan a lot of people are going to get splattered.
