Internment is not a good idea

Internment is not a good idea

Seumas Milne on the Comment is Free in the Guardian argues that the government's proposal to extend the detention limit for suspected terrorists from 28 to 56 days is "A pointless attack on liberty that fuels the terror threat".

I find myself in complete agreement with him.

Re interment, why that set number of days? How did they pick that number? After all when Guy Fawkes was tortured it only took a few days to get him to talk.

James: You wouldn't want to be left out now would you?

fidothedog: I think they threw darts at a dartboard to come up with that score.
Torture is a breach of human rights law. Therefore, to protect suspects from torture the authorities intend to keep them indefinitely safe from charges and trial...

Torture could be legaly defined as having to watch gordon braun's speeches with all the draconian measures he plans and having no recourse to complain without smashing your own telly.
