Since serving a 35 years prison sentence John Hirst has campaigned for prisoners rights and penal reform. Mr Hirst argues here that in the run up to a general election we should be asking “Why should a prisoner (or indeed anyone) seek the permission of the State to legally challenge the State?”

I'm glad I have at last got round to reading this. Very interesting. Even I am a little shocked at the non-compliance of the Straw man. What this piece does not convey is the immense size of the task you set yourself. I don't know how much perseverance that takes - a lot more than I'd ever have. Hats off to you, John. What I'd give for a little bit of your Asperger's!
