The war against terrorism is not our Cold War

It is nonsense for Gordon Brown to claim that the war on terror is our Cold War. There is a danger that Gordon Brown is seeking to turn Britain into a large scale Guantanamo Bay. I would say that if we are going to use any analogy at all, then the Iraq war is America's second Vietnam war. If we shovel all the bullshit aside, what we are left with is Iraq has oil, America wants that oil and is going to take it. Because Britain allowed Tony Blair to go along with this illegal raid upon another State and remove its natural resource, then we cannot whinge when Iraqis retaliate.

Detaining suspects for 14 days, and then 28 days. And, now Gordon Brown is seeking to detain them for 90 days without charge and trial. This is the equivalent to a 6 month prison sentence, less remission. Those that are actually charged, Gordon Brown then wants to keep on questioning the suspects and bleed them dry before putting them on trial. This all has the ring of the Tudor Laws against Treason about it. Do we really want to go back to such draconian times?

I am totally out of my depth in this area of law.

My gut instinct tells me that keeping ANY suspect for whatever reason without charge is OUTRAGEOUS.

Can you explain why investgating a charged person further and beyond the initial charges should more evidence come to light is bad?

Serious Question no tricks.

Once charged the police cannot ask you any more questions unless, for instance, new information is discovered. What they are seeking is the power to question further without offering any justification. The charge stage is reached when they have enough evidence to go to trial. I feel it is an attempt to interfere with the trial process.
