"It is difficult to understand what type of woman would subject her own daughter to such a wicked and evil crime".
When I heard this on the news last night, I thought 'It's the action of a desperate woman'. They had seen the McCanns get away with it and thought they would try it as well. I don't think it is so much evil, more of an ill-thought out plan to make a quick buck. It appeared as though they did not have two brain cells to rub together. More pathetic than evil. As if the reward money was going to be paid out to Karen Matthews when she found her own daughter, and no inquiry into the circumstances? It seems to me that they need community sentences and the support of the social services rather than a lengthy prison sentence.

Both parents were implicated in the evidence based testimony of Mr Amaral's Truth of The Lie.
According to police reports at the time Shannon was found 'laughing, well fed and clean clothed' hiding under her uncle's bed, he quickly confessed the whole family had planned the 'scam'; they were inspired by the McCanns' £1.3 m gain from a plea of abduction.
Shannon's family were clearly unaware of the unprecedented level of government intervention and assistance given to the McCanns or Gerry's links.
