Fan's fate is agonising dilemma for Straw
I do not know whether or not Michael Shields was guilty of the crime for which he was convicted by a Bulgarian court in 2005. But I am sure that should the justice secretary, Jack Straw, grant him a pardon, the consequences for many prisoners currently in foreign jails could be severe.
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.

Unless he pardoned them all and out of a spirit of love and fair play, the EU sent them all home.
