Ford open prison riot is history making

Ford open prison riot is history making

Yesterday the BBC reported that Ford open prison riot tackled by specialist officers.

Hello BBC, to my knowledge for at least 30 years prison riots have been tackled by specialist prison officers! That is hardly news! What is news though, and the BBC has missed the point is that this is the first prison riot in an open prison! Not only is this news but it is also history. Just like the prisoners votes case.

Apparently, 2 prison officers and 4 support staff managed to cause a riot in an open prison. Because the prison officers and support staff were not allowed to drink on duty. They decided that the prisoners, who are all over 18 years of age, and not driving at the time, should also not be allowed to drink alcohol on News Years Eve and New Years Day.

"Mark Freeman from POA said...those responsible for the trouble had worn balaclavas to conceal their identities". Why were the prison officers concealing their identities like police officers attacking student demonstraters?

"Prisons Minister Crispin Blunt said the prisoners being transferred were being moved to other, closed prisons, either because they were involved in the disturbances or because of damage to their accommodation". So those involved in the riot were being punished by being sent to closed conditions, and those not involved in the riot were also being punished by being sent to closed prisons!

"Mr Blunt warned those who were not directly involved but witnessed the events that they would be required to provide "full and frank" accounts of what they saw if they wanted to remain in an open prison". Only (grasses) informants will be allowed to stay in open prison! Why is Crispin Blunt the prisons minister? The man is an obvious idiot!

Mark Freeman: "It has been a concern for a long, long time - the amount of alcohol that prisoners are able to get here at Ford. I understand that over 40 bottles of alcohol have been found empty - a great problem."

I used to earn £3,000 per week smuggling alchohol into open prison, and it was not unusual for some inmates to line up all the empty bottles outside the staff office.

Juliet Lyon, director of the Prison Reform Trust, said: "No-one wins from a prison disturbance". Stupid cow! The screws union wins from a prison riot that is why they start them!

Prisoners are only controlled by their consent. If they withdraw this for any reason, such as not giving them the vote, then I foresee a lot more riots in a lot more prisons in the near future.

Well said, I agree.
Unfortunately we won't see this side of things in the media. How the unions must be rubbing their hands in glee!!.

A thought provoking post John and no doubt a lot of sense in it. But I am more inclined to think that a prison officer(s)was unable to deal with New Year festivities from the inmates in a sensible way.
