Why the Daily Mail should be closed down

Why the Daily Mail should be closed down

The Daily Mail has once again shown why freedom of expression is not absolute under the European Convention. Because it has abused this right it should be curtailed. I expect a newspaper to report news and not be a vehicle to advance a political message. In an article seeking to deny people of this country their human right to a family life under Article 8 of the Convention, the Daily Mail has once again attacked convicted prisoners and the European Court of Human Rights in relation to prisoners human right to the vote.

The Daily Mail is advocating that the UK should ignore its obligations to abide by the Convention and abide by the Court's decisions by defying the Court's judgments. The Daily Mail claims that the Court cannot enforce its judgments. What the Daily Mail is suggesting is that the UK should have no honour.

In my view, the Daily Mail should be warned to clean up its act or be closed down. The Daily Mail is setting a bad example for people to follow. I would contend that the Daily Mail is a threat to a civilised, democratic country. Public protection demands fair and balanced reporting.
