Madeleine McCann: The saga continues

At the weekend it was reported: "The parents of Madeleine McCann are demanding "showdown" talks with police to discover why detectives believe their daughter may be dead". When I read that in the Sunday Telegraph, I could not help getting the vision of the film High Noon in my head. The arrogant McCanns set the deadline for their shootout with the Portugese police for Wednesday. It is now Thursday and I have not heard of any such showdown having taken place. It would appear that the McCanns are all wind.

Today, the Daily Telegraph is reporting "Madeleine sniffer dogs detect scent of body". Anyone following the story will know that that is old news. However, what is news is this "Detectives remain convinced despite reports last night that preliminary test results on blood specks found inside the bedroom of the apartment were not those of Madeleine". Not that the police believe Madeleine is dead, but that the traces of blood found in the apartment do not belong to Madeleine. This was always a long shot that they would prove to be a match.

Also news is this snippet "Kate and Gerry McCann admitted for the first time that they have discussed returning home to Britain without their daughter". About time too. It's not everybody who can afford an all expenses paid extended holiday from a week to over 3 months. I note that whereas previously it used to be Gerry and Kate McCann, more recently the media are reporting a shift in the relationship and it has become Kate and Gerry McCann. Kate McCann is reported as saying "I can't imagine how we came out as a family of five and going back as a four". It does not take too much imagination to accept that if you neglect or abandon a 3 year old child and 2 year old twins then the chances are greater that something awful might happen. That's if you accept the child abduction theory.

The Portugese police are still proceeding along the lines that Madeleine died in the McCanns apartment. And, if the dog sniffer theory is accepted then she was dead for at least 2 hours in the apartment. This would pretty much exclude the 5 minute window of opportunity for an abductor. It puts the McCanns firmly in the frame. The McCanns have stated that the police investigation is back to square one. This being the case, the McCanns need to be ruled out as prime suspects in Madeleine's disappearance. I for one will not be satisfied until they are given the third degree.

UPDATE: I note that The Times is claiming "Exclusive: Blood in bedroom is not Madeleine's". Given that The Times online is often not published until about 9 or 10 in the morning, they were up too late to claim an exclusive to a story which the Daily Telegraph had already published and often it does so about midnight the day before.

I suppose I should be flattered that a journalist from The Times must have been reading my blog to publish this. "All anyone knows (except, if there was a crime, her assailant) is that Madeleine is missing". I was saying this when the Mainstream Media was reporting that Madeleine had been abducted.

Given that Gerry and Kate McCann are the legal guardians of their children, perhaps they can explain to the public what has happened to Madeleine and where is she now?

Until now they have been well protected from the "third degree". The British PM, the Portuguese PM, The Pope, the Child protection agencies, the best London Lawyers that money can buy, the British Press, Celebreties, MPs, Whitehall's media machine, Ambassadors, the list is almost endless. Have all been vocal and active in their support for the McCann's.

Only now is it just becoming possible to give them the third degree. They would do well to get out of Portugal now asap, while the going is good. Child neglect carries a far stiffer sentence in Portugal than it does in the UK.

Odds on they do not come directly back to the UK. I expect them to head off across the pond to the States.
It is interesting how the roles have changed over time between the two.
But the MSM still seems reluctant to do any digging into the McCann's backgrounds.
I think the answer to Madeleine is in what was going on before they took that fateful holiday.

I think the next couple of weeks are going to see a dramatic twist to this saga - possibly with the arrest of the McCanns for at the very least neglect , its interesting how quiet things have gone considering the latest evidence of the blood found in the apartment - this is a very sensitive case for obvious reasons ,not least for future public relations between the two countries - I for one have never believed the McCann's version of events and the truly bizzare way they have conducted themselves since the 'abduction' - lets hope there is an end in sight and justice is done in this tragic case.

barnacle bill: I think it is odd that they up sticks and left the UK. Given that they had only been in their new house a year, and applied for and were given planning permission and had started an extension to their house. I got the feeling they were on the run from something.
