John Redwood advocates a return to the Dark Ages

The Tories are all over the place at the moment. The Leader of the Tory Party, David Cameron, is saying nothing. He doesn't know what to say. John Redwood is saying this, George Osborne is saying that. And, Tim Mongomerie is saying this and that. Tim Montgomerie is taking the usual LibDem position of sitting on the fence, by claiming that both John Redwood and George Osborne are right. Politically, this is the case because both of them are right wingers. However, if John Redwood is saying one thing and George Osborne is saying another then surely one must be right and one must be wrong?

I can't help thinking about all those poor trees being cut down to produce John Redwood's 211 page Report, "Freeing Britain to Compete". All that time gone into preparing it, and at what cost? It makes for heavy reading, I only managed to get through the first 15 pages before the gin and tonic took its toll. Luckily, the key points have been summarized here. My initial reaction is that John Redwood starts with history, under Margaret Thatcher the country was doing well. Presently, it is going to the dogs under the Labour government. For the country to get back on track again, we need to vote the Tory Party back into power. What John Redwood is conveniently forgetting is that the electorate had 18 years of Tory Party rule, and that was enough for the electorate to decide that it was time for a change for the better. I don't think we are ready for a return to the Dark Ages.
