Anti-gay US church ordered to pay $10.9m
I think this is a case of compensation culture gone mad. Even if it is accepted that it was not freedom of speech, and that the Baptist church is liable, the size of the award appears to me to far exceed any alleged suffering caused "The federal jury awarded Mr Snyder $2.9 million in compensatory damages and a further $8 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and causing emotional distress".

There is more hatred and hardship served up in the name of "religion" than any other cause. How about getting rid of every fekkin church and religion full stop?
The size of the award is supposed to act as a deterrant. Shame it won't work, but thats the idea.
To be honest... Being a straight guy, after death, I'd rather go to an hell filled out with all the gay people that I know (be it male or female), than to go to an heaven stuck with the kind portraid on the picture used on this post... Just my 2 cents on the subject :)
