That is an understandable reason but you have no way of knowing that is the case.

Regards that awful child abuse case in Plymouth the police have now released their recorded interviews with the culprit to the BBC.

I find this very unsettling, surely police interviews are conducted in the strictest confidence and to make them public is illegal.

The woman has not yet been sentenced, couldn't a good lawyer now appeal against any sentence?

Sometime in the future there will come the question of her release from prison, won't these confession tapes prejudice any decision?

In short why release police interviews into the public domain and will it now make more people exercise their right to silence?

Call it a guess...

I have seen other tapes released to the media.

It does appear premature. They may have sought her permission. The sentencing judge will already have had access to them so it should not effect the sentence.

The Parole Board has a tendency to lean towards public protection, which means an injustice towards the prisoner.

Without hearing the police justifications, I haven't got a clue. If you exercise your right to silence the jury can infer from this whatever they like. If you speak, the police may release the tapes into the public domain. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. My advice is to speak but say as little as possible and look to your legal representative for guidance. In two recent cases involving me the charges were thrown out, so the tapes did not feature.

It is understood Gately spent several hours socialising and was back in the apartment before 6am Spanish time, although reports he had been on an eight-hour session were denied.

This snippet is from The Telegraph...

I live in Spain and did at one time have a bar...I opened at 5 pm and as in Spain there are no closing times as such, many night s the English have spent the entire night drinking. An eight hour session for those that wish to drink is not such a long time, they use to go outside , vomit, then return to carry on drinking.Sounds awful, but true.
