'Oldest' burglar is jailed again

'Oldest' burglar is jailed again

A man thought to be Britain's oldest burglar has been sentenced to 28 months in prison - after being caught thieving on his push bike in Cumbria.

Richard Blaylock, 77, stole cash, cufflinks and a watch after cycling to a village five miles from his home in Carlisle, a court heard on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to two charges of burglary.

The court heard that he has more than 70 previous convictions and has been sent to prison 26 times.

The great-grandfather, of Prescott Road, Longsowerby, was arrested after targeting a house and a cow shed in Great Orton.

Admittedly it does not say how much cash was stolen, but I suspect it was not a great amount. Certainly nowhere near the £80,000 it will cost to house him in prison for 2 years. In my view, a slap on the wrists and £10 out of the poor box would have sufficed!

You think they'd stuff him and mount him in a museum.
