Older prisoners 'doubly punished'
Older prisoners 'doubly punished'
Older prisoners in England and Wales face a "double punishment" of poor treatment and conditions, says campaign group the Prison Reform Trust.
In a report, it says older inmates face bullying, isolation and discrimination by other prisoners and staff.
Prisoners aged over 60 are the fastest growing group in prisons, and the figures are expected to rise.
The government acknowledged the ageing prison population was a challenge, but said positive steps were being made.
Hat-Tip to Barnacle Bill for alerting me to this story, I had just scanned the BBC and totally missed it.

Taking away someone's freedom should be the ONLY punishment that is meted out. I think should be the ONLY punishment meted out, that being the harshest of all.
I think that prison staff should be better trained and screened and more responsibility placed upon them to eradicate the intimidation and undue stress and violence created within the system they are
paid to oversee.
I think it's wonderful that you work to help others in this situation.
I've defended a number of people who are sent to prison unable to speak English - now that's desperately isolating...

Then they should have behaved themselves, then they would not be in prison.

So what do you suggest ? If you do bad things you are going to prison. If you don't do bad things then you will be allowed to grow old at home. Most folk opt for the latter, however as you appear very sympathetic to their plight perhaps they could all move in with you ?
