Murder charge for prison van man
Murder charge for prison van man
A prison van driver who is accused of murdering a woman by hitting her with his vehicle is due to appear in court.
Andrew Curtis, 48, of Serco Court Escort Services, will appear in custody at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court in south London.
He is charged with the murder of Nyaraui Benjamin, 34, in Brixton Road, Brixton, on 22 April.
Ms Benjamin was trapped under the van carrying 11 prisoners outside the town hall in Brixton, south-west London.
I can understand if a charge of manslaughter was brought, however, I fail to see that a charge of murder will stick. There is no premeditation, unless the driver knew the woman and knew she would be there for him to run her over.

My thoughts, exactly, when I first heard it.
Why murder and not manslaughter?
Strange one.
Like merkin I think there is more to this than we are being told.
I remember when it was reported, which seemed to imply it was an unfortunate accident, but for a murder charge to be filed seems excessive.
