Cyclist 'knocked down and killed teenage girl'
A cyclist who ran down and killed a teenage girl as she walked along the pavement has denied a charge of dangerous cycling.
Jason Howard, 36, was allegedly heard shouting "move because I'm not stopping" as he hurtled towards a group of teenagers at around 20mph.
He admitted to police that he could have avoided the group but thought they would get out of his way, a court has heard.
Mr Howard struck Rhiannon Bennett, 17, with such force that he knocked her over and she struck her head on the pavement.
It beggars belief that the maximum penalty for this offence is only a £2,000 fine. I fail to understand why he was not charged with manslaughter or at the very least with assault?

It does beggar belief. I was run over by a cycle and people thought it was funny. Didn't seems a joke at the time though.
So many times my baby's pram has nearly been knocked over by cyclists. And they swear as well if you dare not jump out of the way on time. Why do they cycle on the pavement anyway?
africanmum: I don't like it either if they come up behind me and scare the living daylights out of me.
They ride on the pavement because they are scared of getting knocked down on the road.
