McCanns drop bid to release files
Kate and Gerry McCann have withdrawn a bid at the High Court for police to release documents on the search for their missing daughter Madeleine.
The move came after Leicestershire Police agreed to disclose 81 pieces of information about the investigation.
Portuguese media last week reported the investigation would be closed because of a lack of evidence.
Madeleine, of Rothley, Leics, went missing in Praia da Luz on 3 May 2007. She was three years old at the time.
Given that there are 11,000 pieces of information held by the Leicestershire Police, allowing the McCanns to see 81 pieces is just a wee drop in the ocean. So much for their big splash of publicity. With Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns can talk the talk but cannot walk the walk.

If I contacted the police, I would expect that contact to remain confidential and not be passed onto third parties.
From the Beeb's report I assumed they had got their way.
Now reading your account John it would appear that perhaps the McCanns had more to fear from this than the old Bill did if it had gone to court.
I just wish the Portuguese police would start the ball rolling by charging them with child neglect.
BB: According to the Sky report, the McCanns won, and the BBC report the McCanns lost.
It would have been a long drawn out and very expensive case, and it is very doubtful that the McCanns would have gained any access to any sensitive information.
The Minister of Justice in Portugal is now considering the PJ files, and the word is that he is considering child neglect charges. We live in hope.
