Mr Jelly Wobble the new Blair poodle!

Mr Jelly Wobble the new Blair poodle!

In the first place is there any need for the taxpayers to fork out for David Cameron's first official face-to-face talks with President Obama? What is wrong with a phone call, email or video conference?

The trip having been planned and the time available allocated, suddenly the best laid plans have to be altered because David Cameron is at the beck and call of the US President and anyone else who wants to kick the dog. Whatever happened to the British Bulldog, when did it become instead a poodle? Perhaps, it was when Tony Blair followed George Bush into an illegal war with Iraq just so that the Americans could fill their gas guzzlers up with liberated oil?

There are still hundreds of innocent men locked up in Guantanamo Bay, who have neither been charged nor put on trial for any criminal offences and yet have served almost 10 years in custody. Therefore, it is a bit rich for the US to start moralising about BP and the release of Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi. Libya was pressurised to offer up a patsy for sacrifice following the bombing of Pan Am flight 103.

Later, BP wanted something from Libya. In particular, oil. It appears that Libya was prepared to do a deal, if it also included release of prisoners. Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi became ill and was released by the Scottish Executive on compassionate grounds. We are assured that his release had nothing whatsoever to do with the oil deal and it was just a coincidence.

Then came the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico...

Instead of being strong and firm, David Cameron started to quiver like a wobbly jelly.
