America led an invasion into Iraq for an oil grab whilst claiming that it was attacking because of Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD).
So even if there was an agreement between BP and Libya which included the release of prisoners in a £584m oil deal, I see no difference between this and the US war for oil policy.
