Lawyers turn to drink and drugs
Lawyers are turning to drink and drugs to combat long hours and stress, new research has shown.
"A survey to be published this week shows that alcohol abuse is commonplace and the use of hard drugs, such as cocaine, is more and more widespread among those in the profession.
The survey, carried out by the magazine Legal Business, says that there is even evidence of 'cocaine clubs' in the basements of law firms and of partner-led games of poker.
The research is backed up by statistics from LawCare, a charity set up to help lawyers with work-related health problems such as stress, depression and addictive illness.
It has found that 30 per cent of male lawyers and 20 per cent of female lawyers drink to excess".
