Prison teachers on strike over contracts dispute

Teaching staff at East Yorkshire prisons are striking today in a row over contracts.
About 50 members of the University and College Union (UCU) at HMP Hull in Hedon Road, as well as staff at Everthorpe Prison, are taking action against the Manchester College (TMC) in a one-day walkout.
TMC, which runs courses at institutions throughout the country, is looking to introduce new contracts for prison teachers, which would mean increased working hours and reductions in holiday and sickness entitlement.
It could see staff take a substantial pay cut if the standardised contracts are introduced.
