East meets West: A drama in 3 parts (Part 2)

East meets West: A drama in 3 parts (Part 2)

Having left White Scar Caves we headed for...

Lancaster Castle

I know I shouldn't laugh but...

Lancaster Castle and the damsel in distress

I just went along for the ride...

H.M. Prison Service - Locate a Prison - Lancaster Castle: Lancaster Castle is a Category C Training prison, situated on the site of an ancient castle which is leased from Lancashire County Council. The land itself is owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, and the prison opened in 1955.

Daiga had the right idea, but went off half-cocked. Lancaster Castle Prison is one of the few I have not been inside during 35 years of imprisonment. And, I would liked to have had a look inside it. Being interested in history. The Prison Officer was rather abrupt with Daiga, telling her off for ringing the bell, when all she was doing was being the innocent tourist mistaking the prison entrance for the museum tour just around the corner. He could have helpfully pointed her in the right direction. There again I should have checked it out first on the internet, but Daiga saying she had done so I did not bother...

In a scene that could have come out of Fawlty Towers, Victors goes for a walk around the Castle walls and we get back in the car and Daiga drives off looking for somewhere to park, and, perhaps, the museum tour. What I thought was just the gift shop was also the start of a tour every 30 minutes!

We walk back and Victors is angry at being left wondering where we had got to.

The last tour goes at 3.30, the museum closing at 4.0'Clock, and Victors shows up at 3.35...

Lancaster Castle

I don't think prisoners should be held in Lancaster Castle, nor the court still operate there. I think it is a shame parts of the castle were destroyed to build the prison within its walls. I suspect planning permission was not an issue, and all that history lost...
