Energy firms 'profit from poor'

Energy firms 'profit from poor'

Energy suppliers make some of their biggest profits from their poorest customers, a watchdog has said.

Firms make about half a billion pounds a year in extra charges from prepayment meters, Consumer Focus estimates.

About 1,000 prepayment meters a day are being installed in households where people have got into debt over their energy bills, it says.

Industry body the Energy Retail Association says many people like the meters because they help them budget.

But the industry is now under pressure from the regulator, Ofgem, to cut the prepayment tariffs
.

Tell me about it! I am fed up of being ripped off by N Power and NatWest. Given that the government is claiming to be cracking down on benefit fraud, perhaps they will also look into these two companies to discover why they are fraudulently taking my state benefit off me month after month?

I think you'll find the government has conveniently scrapped the complaints system .....

Install energy efficient lightbulbs in yer palace. (and it is, if you could see how litle space we have in oor hoose.) Block off the gas at the point in the kitchen and buy yerself an old Rayburn Royale range from some cunt for a couple O' hundred. Fuel it with old chopped up pallet wood or all the fallen wood from trees which have fallen in the wind around yer gaff. (we did this in Germany and lived like kings) Dead mice? Chuck em in the rayburn! Old shoes? Chuck em in the rayburn! Manky tee-shirt? Wash it, you manky fucker!

RESULT:
next to nothin' electric bill and all yer heatin' and cookin' paid for by street scavenging. The amount of valuable burning wood thrown away by by shops is a valuable credit in ur kitchen. Old crates, pallets, boxes etcetera, etcetera. THIS WILL FUCK the energy companies up. As I am doing by installing a second hand wood burner in my kitchen.

You know whit irks me? Ten years ago I sold a Rayburn Royale for £50 in the local paper and I haven't got it now. BUT I tell you pal, one of these ranges will DEFINATELY heat your whole house as the heat from it will rise from your kitchen and fill your whole house AND do all yer cooking facilities.

This system is what the southern Irish have relied on for the last few hundred years. FECK the electric board. (an' all whit sail in them)

Downside of this system is that yer bedrooms would be a bit on the "hot" side and you may have to open a couple of windows. Could you live with that?

Quite agree with you on this John.
My youngest daughter could not understand why her credit was going so quickly on her pre-payment meter when she first moved into her place. Only found out after six months she was paying off the last lot's debt!
Finally got her meter changed and all they would offer was a measly fifty quid back.
If our glorious unelected Leader wanted to help the poor in this country he should look into this scandal instead of swaning off to the States at every opportunity.
