Name change for school next door to Britain's most notorious criminals
Despite good results and praise from Ofsted, a school has struggled to attract applicants -- and the staff think they know why.
Now, Broadmoor Primary School is to change its name in an effort to break the association with the high-security hospital next door, which is home to some of Britain's most notorious criminals including Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper.
The intake has been in sharp decline and governors say it is because parents are refusing to even look around the school, near Crowthorne, Berkshire, because of the stigma attached to its name. Pupil numbers are now 25 per cent below target, and as a result the school's funding has been cut.
Governors carried out a survey of local residents, estate agents and child-minders, which found that people expected the school to have a high number of pupils with special needs and mental health problems.
It's official, prisoners are now to blame for our failing education system...
