Tories expel MEP over misuse of funds

An MEP who channelled more than £500,000 of allowances into a business run by his wife and daughter has been expelled from the Conservative Party. Den Dover, who used to be the party's chief whip in Europe, was dismissed after David Cameron learnt that a European Parliament investigation had found major discrepancies in his use of allowances.

The Independent revealed in the summer that the MEP had paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to a family-owned business over seven years. Money was then sent to his local party.

Mr Dover maintained that he had done nothing wrong in paying the money to the firm run by his wife, Kathleen, and daughter, Amanda. The Conservatives admitted last night that a European Parliament investigation into Mr Dover's use of allowances had discovered "unaccountable expenditure" of more than £500,000

We're still awaiting the outcome of Scotland Yard's enquiries into 3 cases of labour's minister's financial improprieties - involving far greater sums.

Do you think they've been shelved since Sir Ian Blair was 'fired' ?
This reportedly cost taxpayers nearly half a million £££s. Many think he was 'short changed' as his legally binding contract had two years to run.

Isn't it alarming that EU accounts are so appallingly 'managed' that auditors have been unable to 'write them off' for the past 12 years?
