British Gas broke into couple's home

British Gas broke into couple's home

"A couple who returned from holiday to find the locks on their front door had been picked were shocked to discover that energy giant British Gas behind the break-in".

They were not even customers of British Gas and were supplied by a rival company!

"Proper checks would have revealed the couple did not owe a penny"!

I'd want a lot more than £200 compensation.

£200? British Gas did this to me in 2003 and told me I was lying.

I moved in to a property in East London in 2002. My lease said my address was "Ground Floor Flat, 243 ......" I contacted British Gas, told them I was moving to that address and asked them to send me a payment card.

About two months later I came home to find my house broken in to and the meter gone.

Turns out they thought they had three meters at the address, one at Ground Floor Flat, one at First Floor Flat and one at 243A which didnt exist.

They put the meter back 12 days later with zero credit. When I told them I had about £40 credit on there, they told me I was lying. Their justification was "according to our records it's a new installation so it cant have any credit."

When I moved out of 243 I didn't return to British Gas.
