Tory MP Patrick Mercer suffers from memory loss
Whilst I agree in principle that it is not right for the BNP to sell fake VCs, I was rather amused by this comment from Tory MP Patrick Mercer: "Medals for gallantry and campaigns are absolutely nothing to do with any political party". What a short memory he has. Let me remind him. Margaret Thatcher, Falklands/Malvinas, Colonel "H"...
A mixture of law, politics, autobiography and humour. Once described as "The Devilish Advocate" (Guardian), I do have the ability to provoke a response. Sometimes it comes from someone who uses a thought process, and sometimes from jerks usually associated with the knee.

Replica medals have always been widely available and I understand replica Victoria Crosses are available from the National Army Museum at a much greater cost. Patrick Mercer knows this but seems to want to damage a political party that doesn’t take dodgy donations and made it clear they intend to hold accountable all involved in the preparation and execution of the illegal war in Iraq.
Patrick Mercer said: "I am convinced that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction, but I doubt that he has the capability to deliver them, and I doubt that there are links between Iraq and terrorists."
Then he said "Saddam Hussein needs to be pushed to the wire militarily, if we want peace, we must vote for war "
It is my considered opinion that Mr Mercer is inclined to forget that which is inconvenient to him. Mr Mercer said to the people of Newark "I have pledged myself to the constituency" and "as MP I’ll put them first and get them back on the map", all that followed was humiliating to say the least.
One need only take a brief look at Hansard to see who he put first and likely always intended to put first and foremost (military concerns) but then it’s also my considered opinion that his regard for the needs of the people of Newark was on the whole ephemeral also it was said in his pre-election literature he made five pledges, and seven months later he failed to fulfil any of them. Patrick Mercer is an ardent disciple of all things military and I think his move to assist Gordon Brown was perceived by Tory grassroots to be no noble cause but rather a shabby act of treachery by an ambitious politician that according to Matthew d'Ancona wanted to go "even further into the heart of Labour", his offer was politely declined. Damn Labour have they no mercy no compassion for the Tory town of Newark?
On the davidaslindsay.blogspot we were told: Yesterday, Patrick Mercer rejoiced to inform a debate in Westminster Hall that the activities of Iran were making conditions for British servicepersons in Iraq and Afghanistan "bloody, hot and lethal".
Mr Mercer said "Now we are going back to the battles our fathers and grandfathers experienced."
Could it possibly be that he is excited and spellbound by "battles glorious and bloody deed victorious”?
Mercer said "To have a chest full of medals and to be in a prestigious fighting unit is the business"
Tell that to the bereaved families of our boys that come home in a body bag, from what I have been reading there really was no need to send them to war. Afghanistan President Karzai said he was fully in charge of Helmand before the arrival of the British forces and when they came in, the Taliban came.
