One of the claims of living in a democracy is the right to protest. In Britain, it is disquieting to be informed that you have the right to protest, but if you exercise that right you may end up in jail. Do we really need to add to our overcrowded prisons political prisoners of conscience?

I posted recently about a friend who was in a peaceful demonstration and was issued with the public order act. The police re routed the march that was to take place and the demonstrators were told if they deviated from the route or lingered anywhere for too long they would be arrested. In addition to that they all had their photographs taken.
